Drone Assault Targets Mykolaiv Region's Power Grid

According to Главком: A Russian drone attack has damaged energy infrastructure in Ukraine's Mykolaiv region, leaving parts of the Bashtansky district without electricity. Vitaliy Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, confirmed the incident, stating that the morning strike by 'Shahed' drones caused damage to the power network, resulting in partial blackouts for settlements in the district.

Context and Consequences of the Attack

The assault occurred on February 13, the same day the city of Kherson also lost power. This event follows a massive missile barrage that took place on February 12. Energy facilities in Kyiv, Odesa, and Dnipro regions suffered the most significant damage from that overnight attack.

Russian forces targeted a DTEK thermal power plant, inflicting substantial damage to the station's equipment. This marks the eleventh mass assault on the company's power stations since October 2025, and DTEK's thermal plants have now been attacked over 220 times since the full-scale invasion began. The power supply situation remains critical, with the most severe problems reported in Kyiv, Odesa, and Dnipro regions.

These ongoing strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure are severely straining the national grid, particularly during winter. The relentless bombardment not only damages vital equipment but also creates immense hardship for civilians facing prolonged blackouts. This campaign against power generation forms a key part of Russia's strategy to weaken Ukrainian resilience. Given the current escalation in hostilities, further attempts to destabilize Ukraine's energy system are anticipated.
