Russian Strike on Gas Tanker Near Romania: Top Ukrainian Diplomat Condemns 'Deliberate Terror'
Response to the Attack on the LPG Tanker Gas Lisbon
According to МЗС: Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has denounced a Russian strike on the LPG tanker Gas Lisbon, which was en route to Ukraine. The assault occurred off the coast of Romania, resulting in injuries to civilian crew members. Sybiha labeled the incident a 'deliberate attack,' calling it yet another example of Russian terrorism.
He stressed that the strike not only wounded individuals but also endangered maritime safety in the Black Sea.
“It injured civilian crew members, jeopardized the security of navigation in the Black Sea, and once again proved that the Kremlin disregards both international maritime law and civilian lives,” said Andrii Sybiha.
Ukraine’s Stance and Global Reactions
The minister also expressed gratitude to Romania for its swift rescue efforts and unwavering solidarity with Ukraine.
“We thank Romania for its rapid rescue operations, steadfast solidarity with Ukraine, and clear understanding that Russia’s reckless actions threaten the security of the entire Black Sea region,” Sybiha added.
Sybiha called for tougher sanctions, increased pressure on Russia, and full accountability for every act of aggression, aiming to compel the aggressor to end the war.
This incident highlights the escalating tensions in the Black Sea, where civilian shipping safety is increasingly vulnerable due to Russian actions. The attack on the tanker raises alarms not only in Ukraine but also among neighboring countries that may face threats from Kremlin aggression.
The importance of international support, particularly from Romania, shows that regional allies are prepared to uphold shared security and stability amid rising aggression. The situation demands an active response from the global community and stronger sanctions against Russia to prevent further acts of hostility.
The ongoing conflict has led to heightened tensions not only in the Black Sea but also in international maritime relations. In a related development, Russia has lodged a complaint with the International Maritime Organization regarding Ukrainian strikes on its shadow fleet. This escalation further underscores the need for a unified global response to ensure safety and security in the region.
