Russian Assault on Yahodyn Border Crossing Supported by Belarus

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: In the early hours of September 13, Russian forces launched an attack on the Yahodyn border checkpoint with backing from Belarus. The Belarusian government has reactivated relay stations that facilitate Russian drones penetrating deep into Ukrainian territory. According to Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for Ukraine's State Border Guard Service, Belarus is actively aiding Russia’s missile strikes on Ukraine by powering signal boosters that support Russian Shahed and Gerber drones.

The assault damaged a fuel station and a locomotive near the Polish border. Demchenko explained that Russian drones enter from Russian territory and hover near the Belarus border to maintain connection with these relay stations. Previously, Belarus had deactivated the relay devices following warnings from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but they have now been turned back on.

Current Status Along the Belarus-Ukraine Border

Despite the threatening situation along the Belarusian front, no major offensive troop formations are currently positioned near the Ukraine-Belarus border. President Zelensky has highlighted that the relay stations installed in two Belarusian regions adjacent to Ukraine enable Russia to better direct strikes against civilian areas. In response, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko denied any military threat from Minsk and expressed willingness to apologize to Zelensky for past harsh statements.

Demchenko stated, "Among other things, the relay stations activated within Belarus amplify signals for Russian Shahed and Gerber drones, which approach from Russian territory and remain near the Belarusian border to maintain connectivity, allowing them to penetrate deeper into Ukraine."

While the situation remains under control along the Belarusian border, the risk of missile attacks originating from Belarus persists.

The attack on the Yahodyn checkpoint and the reactivation of these relay stations underscore the growing military cooperation between Russia and Belarus in the ongoing conflict against Ukraine. This development presents additional challenges for Ukrainian defense forces, as the threat from Belarus remains significant. Maintaining vigilance, preparing for potential provocations, and intensifying diplomatic efforts are essential to addressing tensions in the region.

The recent activation of relay stations in Belarus has significantly impacted the ongoing conflict, facilitating deeper Russian drone incursions into Ukrainian airspace.
