Drone Assaults Target Zaporizhzhia

According to Главком: A series of Russian drone attacks on Zaporizhzhia city and its surrounding district in February 2024 inflicted significant damage on civilian areas and infrastructure. These strikes are part of a wider pattern of attacks on Ukrainian cities far from the front lines. On the night of February 11, Russian forces struck an infrastructure facility in Zaporizhzhia, triggering a large fire and shattering windows in several residential buildings. Preliminary reports indicated there were no casualties from this specific incident.

Earlier, on the evening of February 10, Russian occupying forces also attacked the Zaporizhzhia district. A strike on the town of Vilniansk left one woman wounded and destroyed a private house. Nearby buildings were damaged, and the Vilniansk community was left without electricity. That same afternoon, the Russian army struck Zaporizhzhia city, damaging a kindergarten.

Ongoing Impact of the Attacks

A further attack occurred on the night of February 21. This strike set a car ablaze, damaged other vehicles, and blew out windows in multi-story apartment blocks. As of now, there is no information on casualties from this later assault.

Collectively, this wave of drone attacks in February 2024 severely disrupted life for residents of Zaporizhzhia and its outskirts, causing serious damage to infrastructure and homes.

The drone assaults on Zaporizhzhia underscore the persistent threat to civilians in Ukraine, particularly within the context of the ongoing armed conflict.

Strikes targeting infrastructure and residential neighborhoods demonstrate a tactic that can lead to humanitarian crises, including power outages and the destruction of housing. This also highlights the critical need for ensuring the safety and protection of civilians in a region where active hostilities continue.
