Lack of Military Support from Russia: Consequences for Allies

According to Главком: Russia has not provided support to its allies at key moments in military conflicts, causing concern among analysts and experts. In cases involving Venezuela, Iran, Syria, and Armenia, the Kremlin shows a lack of military assistance, raising doubts about the reliability of its international alliances.

Examples of Betrayal: Venezuela, Iran, Syria, and Armenia

Venezuela has become a recent example of betrayal by Russia. Nicolas Maduro, the Venezuelan dictator, received military support from Russia in the form of weapons supplies, fighter jets, and air defense systems. However, a Russian military delegation visited Caracas a few weeks ago, but after Maduro's arrest, Putin did not express any support for him. As expert Julian Ropke noted:

“there's no need to mention the most important partner in South America.”

In the case of Iran, the situation also looks alarming. Strikes by Israel on Iran's missile and nuclear program are expected in 2025, but the Kremlin has still not provided any assistance to Tehran. According to Ropke, Russia “has dropped the ayatollahs like a hot potato,” indicating a loss of strategic support.

Syria has not been an exception either. Bashar Assad's army lost Damascus in 2024, and Russia did not take any measures to support its ally. According to analysts' assessments, “the military might that Russia paternalistically offers to its allies is a fiction.” This highlights the growing gap between the Kremlin's promises and the reality on the battlefield.

Equally important is the situation in Armenia, where Azerbaijan launched an operation in Nagorno-Karabakh in 2020. Russia ignored Armenia's request for assistance within the CSTO, further emphasizing that the Kremlin, “bogged down in the war against Ukraine, is failing to fulfill any of its military obligations.”

Thus, the series of refusals by Russia to support its allies raises questions about its ability to be a reliable partner on the international stage.

The lack of military support from Russia indicates changes in its foreign policy and may have serious consequences for its international relations. Allies such as Venezuela, Iran, Syria, and Armenia may begin to reassess their ties with Moscow, potentially leading to a decrease in its influence in these regions. The critical situation that Russia is facing may also affect its future strategy in international conflicts.
