Deadly Russian Strike on Dnipro: 2 Killed and 18 Wounded in Overnight Attack
Massive Shelling Hits Dnipro
According to Главком: Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on the city of Dnipro during the night of May 17–18, 2026. The assault damaged roughly 20 apartment buildings and private homes, two kindergartens, a gymnasium, a mosque, a university building, and a tram. Thousands of windows were shattered across the affected areas. The bombardment lasted from the evening of May 17 into the early hours of May 18, with Russian troops using drones, Shahed unmanned aerial vehicles, and missiles.
Two people lost their lives in the Dnipro attack, and 18 others sustained injuries. Among the wounded are a two-year-old girl and a ten-year-old boy, both currently receiving outpatient care. Eight individuals were hospitalized-four women and four men-and medical staff describe their condition as moderate in severity.
“The number of wounded from the Russian attack on Dnipro has now reached 18. Among them are a 2-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy. The children are being treated on an outpatient basis,” the regional military administration reported.
Strike on Odesa
In addition, Russian troops targeted Odesa overnight on May 18. The shelling left two local residents injured and damaged several residential buildings, a lyceum, and a kindergarten. In the Prymorskyi and Kyivskyi districts of Odesa, the roofs of three-story structures were destroyed, while in another part of the city, a one-story house was demolished. The attack also damaged the city lyceum and a kindergarten.
“Eight people have been hospitalized-four women and four men. Doctors assess their condition as moderate. All victims are receiving the necessary care,” said Oleksandr Ganzha.
These strikes highlight the ongoing tensions in the region, as Russian forces continue to target civilian infrastructure in Ukrainian cities. Ukrainian authorities are urging the international community to tighten sanctions against Russia and provide additional humanitarian aid to those affected. Such attacks, particularly on residential neighborhoods and educational facilities, underscore the severe humanitarian toll the war is taking on the civilian population.
The recent attacks on Dnipro are part of a broader pattern of aggression, as evidenced by a simultaneous strike on Odesa that occurred shortly after. This incident resulted in two injuries and significant damage to local educational facilities.
