Strikes Against Naftogaz Infrastructure

According to ХВИЛЯ: In the early hours of August 9, Russia launched a wave of heavy attacks on Naftogaz Group facilities spanning Ukraine's eastern, western, and central regions. The strikes targeted Ukrnafta's extraction assets and a drilling site, with dozens of drones descending on the production infrastructure and causing severe damage. As a result, some equipment was knocked out of service and operations at the affected facility have been halted.

On August 7 and 8, drones also struck seven UKRNAFTA filling stations located across Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Mykolaiv oblasts. A station employee sustained injuries during one of these attacks and is currently hospitalized. Then, on August 8, the enemy used jet-propelled drones to hit Naftogaz's production facilities in central Ukraine. Personnel sheltering at the site during the assault were safe, but the facility itself suffered major structural damage.

Escalating Intensity of Attacks

Acting Naftogaz Board Chairman Sergiy Fedorenko pointed to a notable surge in enemy strikes against oil and gas infrastructure in recent days.

"It is clear the enemy aims to inflict maximum harm on Ukrainian extraction and other critical infrastructure in order to derail preparations for the heating season,"

he said. Fedorenko also stressed that

"our priority is to protect human lives and keep working, even under these extremely difficult conditions."

These attacks underscore the worsening security situation and the serious threats facing the country's vital infrastructure. Naftogaz is Ukraine's dominant state-owned energy company, and the repeated drone barrage signals a deliberate strategy to disrupt energy supplies as winter approaches, with ripple effects for both households and the broader economy.

The recent wave of attacks on Naftogaz facilities highlights a concerning trend in the ongoing conflict, particularly as evidenced by a massive strike on gas extraction sites in the Kharkiv region. These incidents not only jeopardize energy production but also pose significant risks to the stability of Ukraine's energy infrastructure as winter approaches.
