Ukraine sounds the alarm over Russian influence in Europe

According to 5 канал: Ukraine's top diplomat, Andrii Sybiha, has voiced alarm on social media about Moscow's efforts to destabilize European democracies before upcoming elections. The warning comes as European governments are increasingly focused on protecting democratic processes from foreign interference. His remarks were made in response to a public message from French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, who outlined Paris's steps to limit Russian influence in the region. Sybiha noted that Russia is investing heavily in manipulation and electoral interference, particularly with an eye to the 2027 EU elections, when more than half of EU residents are expected to cast ballots.

A call for coordinated action

The minister urged European governments to design and implement a clear strategy against Russian hybrid influence, propaganda and disinformation, including through cultural initiatives.

"We call on every partner in the EU to adopt a responsible, balanced and firm policy to resist Russian hybrid influence, propaganda and manipulation-particularly through culture. Ukraine has deep practical experience in dealing with these threats, and we are ready to share it with our European allies," he said.

Sybiha also welcomed the appeal by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev urging Putin to halt hostilities. He reiterated Ukraine's proposal for a cease-fire along the current front line and a move toward diplomatic talks. At the same time, he pointed out that Russia continues to reject peace efforts, with a Kremlin spokesman speaking against Tokayev's initiative.

"The Russian regime sees 2027 as another key opportunity to attack European democracies-through election meddling, interference in internal affairs and disinformation. European governments should treat these risks seriously," the minister stressed.

Sybiha also made an impassioned plea for action, saying that "acting requires courage, but such courage is necessary to defend national security from Russian meddling."
