According to ХВИЛЯ: Russia intended to launch a major assault on Kyiv using approximately 800 weapons systems. The actual results, however, fell far short of expectations. For instance, the real impact of the strike on Lviv, which was part of this offensive, was limited to an area of just 145 square meters. Debris from the 'Oreshnik' missile, used in the overnight attack of January 8-9, 2026, was scattered over a search area of about 40 hectares.

During the assault, cruise missiles launched by long-range aircraft failed to cross the frontline and crashed on Russian territory. The attack also resulted in the following:

• The Darnytska Thermal Power Plant and TEC-6 lost power,
• TEC-5 was successfully defended,
• A portal at the Vinnytska substation was damaged by a new high-precision 'Iskander' missile,
• Two jet-powered 'Shahed' drones hit a key facility in the Kyiv region after 10 a.m.

Russian forces continue to maintain drone surveillance over the damaged sites, deliberately hindering and delaying urgent repair work.
