Ukraine Comes Under Massive Attack on July 2

According to Главком: During the night of July 2, Russia carried out a large-scale, combined assault on Ukraine, with the main thrust aimed at Kyiv. According to the Air Force's radar troops, a total of 570 aerial threats were detected, consisting of 74 missiles and 496 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of various types.

The missiles identified in the attack included:

  • eight Kalibr cruise missiles
  • four Kh-59 and Kh-69 guided air-launched missiles

The UAVs deployed were of the following types:

  • Shahed
  • Gerbera
  • Italmas
  • Banderol loitering munitions
  • Parody decoy drones

As of 9:00 AM, Ukraine's air defense systems had successfully intercepted or neutralized 524 of these targets, including 48 missiles. Specifically, the following were destroyed:

Additionally, 476 enemy UAVs were shot down.

The attack resulted in 25 ballistic missiles and 12 strike drones hitting 33 different locations, while debris from downed UAVs fell across 18 sites. In Kyiv, the assault caused casualties, fires, and damage to civilian infrastructure and residential buildings in several districts. In the broader Kyiv region, three men were injured, two of whom required hospitalization.

This assault is part of the ongoing escalation in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, where the use of diverse aerial attack methods highlights the complexity of military operations on both sides. The high interception rate achieved by Ukraine's air defenses reflects their growing effectiveness, yet the toll on civilians remains devastating.

This situation underscores the urgent need for continued international support to strengthen Ukraine's defensive capabilities and protect its civilian population.

In addition to the recent large-scale assault, a separate incident saw Kyiv targeted with a barrage of ballistic missiles and drones, resulting in injuries to civilians. This ongoing wave of attacks underscores the escalating tensions in the region and highlights the urgent need for enhanced air defense measures.
