Ukraine Hit by Major Russian Assault Involving Over 370 Drones and 21 Missiles
Russia Launches Large-Scale Assault on Ukraine
According to Зеленський: In a major overnight assault, Russian forces launched over 370 attack drones and 21 missiles against Ukrainian targets. The capital Kyiv, as well as the regions of Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv, were struck. This attack is part of a sustained Russian campaign targeting civilian infrastructure to inflict maximum disruption. Numerous infrastructure sites were damaged, including in the city of Kharkiv, where impacts were recorded at:
- a maternity hospital
- a dormitory for displaced persons
- a medical college
- residential buildings
The assault has left dozens wounded, including at least one child. Tragically, one fatality has been confirmed.
Response and Ongoing Situation
In the capital and surrounding areas, energy infrastructure was a primary target for the drones and missiles. Emergency responders, medical personnel, utility workers, energy crews, and repair teams are on-site working to mitigate the attack's consequences. The situation remains challenging as these specialized services continue their duties to ensure public safety and restore damaged facilities.
This bombardment is part of Russia's ongoing military aggression against Ukraine, which began with the annexation of Crimea in 2014. Strikes on energy infrastructure are a deliberate tactic aimed at destabilizing the country, creating a humanitarian crisis, and breaking the population's resilience. The effectiveness of Ukraine's emergency response is critical for maintaining stability and security in the face of these persistent military threats.
