Intense Drone Assault Targets Ukraine

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: On September 12, Russian forces unleashed a massive strike on Ukrainian territory, deploying 410 attack drones. Ukrainian air defense successfully intercepted or neutralized 336 of these, including 23 rocket-powered drones. The offensive persisted from 6:30 AM until 6:00 PM, with approximately 55 drones still active in the airspace by evening, alongside reports of additional drone groups arriving.

Impact and Damage from the Strikes

The attacks resulted in tragic civilian casualties in Zhytomyr region, where two people died in the city of Zviahel after a drone hit a grocery store. Fires broke out at two gas stations and a shop within Korosten and Zviahel districts. Additionally, two cars and dry vegetation caught fire. In Zviahel district, a factory owned by the Polish company Cersanit SA, which manufactures ceramic tiles and sanitary equipment, was also targeted.

Russian forces further struck railway infrastructure in Volyn region, including the city of Lutsk, as well as in Kyiv region near Fastiv. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in these incidents. Attacks also hit a gas station in Rivne region without causing casualties. Due to intensified strikes on railways in Sumy region, train services have been temporarily rerouted to Konotop station, with bus transfers arranged to reach Sumy.

The Ukrainian Air Force has urged citizens to remain vigilant and respond promptly to air raid warnings, emphasizing that the security situation remains critical.

This wave of drone attacks represents one of the largest recent escalations, highlighting ongoing Russian aggression that threatens the safety of Ukrainian cities and key infrastructure. While the high interception rate showcases the strength of Ukraine’s air defense, the civilian losses expose the persistent vulnerabilities faced by the population amid the conflict.

The increased focus on railway targets may disrupt regional transportation networks, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced security measures and public preparedness against potential future assaults.

This recent wave of drone strikes follows another significant attack where Russian forces targeted Ukraine at night with Iskander missiles and a large number of drones. Such escalations underline the persistent threat to Ukrainian security and infrastructure. For more details on this attack and its implications, read about the nighttime offensive here.
