Ukraine's Cities Hit in Major Russian Overnight Assault: Casualties and Damage Reported

Widespread Russian Strikes Target Ukrainian Cities

According to Главком: In a major overnight assault on February 26, Russian forces launched a wave of attacks against multiple Ukrainian cities, employing 'Shahed' drones and ballistic missiles. The strikes resulted in substantial destruction and civilian casualties.

Affected Cities and Infrastructure

In Kharkiv, the Kyivskyi, Slobidskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi districts came under fire. The attacks caused damage to:

• apartment buildings;
• private homes;
• overhead power lines;
• a gas pipeline.

Reports from the Shevchenkivskyi district indicate a direct hit on a multi-story residential building. A fire broke out at the impact site in the Slobidskyi district.

The city of Zaporizhzhia was also targeted. At least one person was injured there, and shopping centers sustained damage. Several floors of a damaged apartment block in Zaporizhzhia caught fire, trapping one resident inside their apartment. In Kryvyi Rih, a 'Shahed' drone struck a five-story residential building.

Explosions were also reported in Kyiv and the surrounding region, which was struck by ballistic missiles and drones. As Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov stated:

"Strikes from two ballistic missiles and a group of 'Shahed' UAVs on the Kyivskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts have damaged apartment buildings, private homes, severed power lines, and ruptured a gas pipeline." - Ihor Terekhov

These strikes represent a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict, which began with Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014.
