Widespread Attack on Ukrainian Energy Infrastructure

According to Зеленський: In a large-scale overnight assault, Russian forces launched a major attack targeting Ukraine's energy facilities. The attack involved a significant barrage of munitions, including:

  • 24 ballistic missiles,
  • one cruise missile,
  • and more than 200 drones.

Ukrainian air defenses managed to intercept a substantial portion of the incoming weapons despite the massive scale of the attack. These strikes are part of a sustained Russian campaign to cripple Ukraine's power grid, especially during the winter months.

Recovery Efforts and International Coordination

Repair crews are now working across multiple regions to restore power and repair damage. Cities such as Kyiv, Odesa, and Dnipro were among the hardest hit. Concurrently, Ukraine's Defense Minister is attending a meeting of the 'Ramstein' format, a key U.S.-led coalition, to discuss bolstering Ukraine's air defenses and securing further military support.

The situation remains critical as recovery operations for the energy infrastructure continue under pressure.

This latest assault marks another escalation in the ongoing conflict, highlighting the strategic vulnerability of Ukraine's energy sector and its critical importance for national resilience.

The Defense Minister's participation in the Ramstein meeting underscores Ukraine's active diplomatic efforts to strengthen international backing and coordinate defensive strategies with its allies.
