Second Wave of Russian Ballistic Missiles Hits Kyiv, Leaving Fatalities
Strikes on Kyiv and Their Aftermath
According to ХВИЛЯ: Hours after the initial assault, Russian ballistic missiles targeted the same locations in Kyiv for a second time. According to Serhii Flash Beskrestnov, these attacks were particularly cynical, as the enemy sought to kill rescue workers operating at the scenes. Data shows that Ukraine’s air defense systems successfully intercepted and neutralized 95% of the drones deployed by the adversary, with approximately 30% of all UAVs being taken down by interceptors.
Impact on Civilians
Over the course of the day, Russian forces used more than 1,500 attack drones. Strikes hit residential buildings and civilian enterprise grounds. The assault targeted critical infrastructure, including Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) and logistics networks. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported 7 dead and 39 wounded in the capital, with nearly 20 people unaccounted for after being trapped under rubble in the Darnytskyi district.
“We successfully withstood an attempt to overwhelm the air defense with attack UAVs-over 1,500 in a single day. 95% of the UAVs were shot down and neutralized. That’s a fantastic result.”

He stressed that no material damage can compare to the loss of human life. The most significant destruction was caused by missiles, especially in Kyiv, underscoring the terrorist tactics employed by Russian forces.
Following a meeting of the Staff, President Zelenskyy described the two-day bombardment as a deliberate terrorist strategy by the Russians, raising alarm among the public and the international community.
The situation in Ukraine remains tense, particularly with renewed attacks on civilian sites and emergency responders. The success of Ukraine’s air defense in neutralizing the vast majority of drones highlights the country’s high level of readiness and defensive effectiveness. However, the numerous civilian casualties and infrastructure damage threaten public safety and well-being, demanding heightened attention from the international community to the region’s ongoing crisis.
As the situation in Kyiv escalates, similar patterns of aggression have emerged in other regions of Ukraine. Recent reports indicate that major Russian strikes have also targeted cities like Lutsk, Kovel, Kolomyia, and Khmelnytskyi, raising concerns about the broader implications of these attacks on civilian safety and infrastructure across the country. The coordinated nature of these assaults highlights a troubling strategy that aims to inflict maximum damage and panic among the population.
