Attacks Target Ukraine's Critical Infrastructure

According to ХВИЛЯ: Throughout the night, Russia launched multiple waves of ballistic missile and drone strikes on Kyiv, Kyiv region, and several other parts of Ukraine. In total, 16 missiles and more than 200 drones were deployed in these assaults. The attacks deliberately targeted key energy facilities, hospitals, schools, metro stations, and residential areas. Among the damaged sites were a medical clinic, a school, a metro station, and over ten energy infrastructure locations.

Impact and Casualties

Energy systems were hit across 11 Ukrainian regions, leaving at least 550,000 families without electricity overnight. Ukraine's air defense successfully intercepted 4 cruise missiles and 243 drones during the attacks. Strikes were confirmed at 25 different sites, including Kyiv, where one person lost their life, and Irpin, where six people were injured, three of them children.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the situation: 'Once again, the energy sector and infrastructure were targeted, but a medical clinic, a school, a metro station, and ordinary residential buildings were also damaged.'

He emphasized that 'Ukraine never wanted this war' and welcomed any efforts by international partners to end the conflict. However, he noted that 'missiles, Shahed drones, and killings continue to be Russia's repeated response.'

President Zelensky also highlighted that 'the US is supplying only 12 Patriot interceptor missiles per month to Ukraine, despite payments already made.' Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent advised caution regarding Zelensky's remarks about pauses in intelligence sharing, warning that 'blocking missile deliveries for Ukraine’s air defenses while Russia gains sanctions relief or delays is, unfortunately, a denial of reality among partners.'

The drone strikes spanned a wide geographic area, hitting regions from Kharkiv and Dnipro to Volyn, Rivne, and Odesa, illustrating the extensive scale of the nighttime offensive.

These attacks underscore Russia’s ongoing campaign to destroy Ukraine's vital infrastructure. The blackout affecting hundreds of thousands of families highlights the severe humanitarian consequences for civilians, raising concerns about a deepening crisis. President Zelensky’s remarks about insufficient weapon supplies from Western allies point to significant challenges Ukraine faces in maintaining a robust defense amid escalating hostilities.

The ongoing conflict has seen a troubling pattern of attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Just a week after a ceasefire announcement, there were significant strikes targeting this sector, leaving tens of thousands without power.
