Russia Announces Delegation for UAE Talks on Ukraine

According to Главком: Russia has named the members of its delegation for the upcoming negotiations aimed at settling the war in Ukraine, which are scheduled to take place in the United Arab Emirates. The next round of talks is set for February 4-5 in Abu Dhabi. The delegation will be led by Igor Kostyukov, head of Russia's military intelligence agency (GRU), who also represented Russia at previous meetings.

The composition of the Russian delegation remains unchanged from the last session. It includes:

  • an envoy of the Russian dictator,
  • Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund,
  • Alexander Zorin, first deputy head of the GRU's information department,
  • translator Ilya Kurepov,
  • an employee of the Russian Defense Ministry's linguistic center.
“It will be the same delegation as last time, headed by Kostyukov - a representative of the Kremlin.”

It is worth noting that the Ukrainian delegation departed for Abu Dhabi on February 2 to participate in bilateral consultations with the United States and a trilateral Ukraine–US–Russia meeting planned for the same dates. These negotiations aim to discuss paths toward a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

Significance of the Negotiations

This round of talks in Abu Dhabi represents a critical stage in attempts to find a solution to the protracted conflict between Ukraine and Russia. The composition of both sides' delegations may indicate their respective approaches: by maintaining its previous team, Russia may be signaling a desire for consistency in its position, while Ukraine is seeking to engage international partners to support its interests. The outcomes of these meetings could significantly influence the future trajectory of the situation in the region. The talks occur against a backdrop of continued military action, highlighting the complex challenge of achieving a diplomatic breakthrough.
