Missile Strike Hits Kyiv on November 7

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: In the early hours of November 7, Kyiv was targeted by a Russian missile attack that caused significant damage to the Northern Bridge and destroyed five trucks parked nearby. The blast damaged the road surface, the trolleybus contact lines, and power cables on the bridge. Five people were injured in the assault, including a 14-year-old child. Due to structural damage, the Northern Bridge has been closed to traffic in both directions.

The shelling also affected residential buildings and a kindergarten in the Solomianskyi district. This latest assault adds to a series of attacks on the city's bridges:

  • On October 3, Russian forces struck the Northern Bridge with an attack drone, damaging the road and trolleybus lines. Two people were injured during that incident.
  • On October 27, a nighttime raid targeted the Southern Bridge, damaging metro surface infrastructure and forcing a temporary closure of the bridge to all traffic. Restrictions were also imposed on the metro's red and green lines due to the damage.

Plans to Rebuild and Strengthen Kyiv’s Transport Network

Authorities in Kyiv are preparing to invest 1 billion hryvnias to construct combined water crossings over the Dnipro River and improve access roads. The locations for these new crossings will be determined by the military command in coordination with the Kyiv City Military Administration. On October 3, plans were announced to begin building several backup crossings across the Dnipro, including the potential development of an underwater tunnel beneath the river.

“The road surface, trolleybus contact line, and power cables have all been damaged. The explosion also harmed five trucks in the parking area,” stated Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

These repeated attacks highlight the severe challenges Kyiv faces as its infrastructure continues to suffer amid ongoing conflict.

The assaults on Kyiv’s vital transport links emphasize the persistent threats confronting the city, underscoring the urgent need for restoration and modernization of critical routes. The planned investment in new water crossings aims to provide alternative transportation options, ensuring both security and continuity of city operations during wartime. Maintaining functional infrastructure is essential for Kyiv’s resilience under these difficult conditions.

The ongoing conflict has led to significant disruptions in Kyiv's transport infrastructure, as evidenced by the recent missile attacks. In light of these challenges, traffic has recently resumed on the Southern Bridge, albeit with restrictions. This situation highlights the need for alternative routes across the Dnipro River.
