Widespread Russian Strikes Across Ukraine on March 11, 2023

According to Главком: On March 11, 2023, a series of Russian strikes hit targets in Shostka, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and southern Ukraine, causing significant destruction. These attacks are part of a sustained campaign targeting civilian infrastructure far from the front lines. The assaults damaged police buildings, residential areas, industrial facilities, and key infrastructure, with casualties confirmed.

In Shostka, Sumy Oblast, a drone strike destroyed a district police department. Over 22 police officers were wounded in the attack, as reported by Ukraine's Interior Minister, Ihor Klymenko.

Attacks also continued against the oil transport infrastructure of Naftogaz in southern Ukraine, damaging a pumping station. In Zaporizhzhia, guided aerial bombs struck a residential area, injuring nine people.

In the morning of March 11, Kharkiv's Shevchenkivskyi district was hit by a drone. The strike caused fatalities and injuries. A local meat processing plant was struck; Governor Oleh Syniehubov stated the enterprise had 'no relation to military infrastructure' and condemned the attack as 'terror against our business in broad daylight.'

Locations and Types of Attacks

The attacks occurred in multiple locations:

  • Shostka (Sumy Oblast)
  • Southern Ukraine
  • Zaporizhzhia
  • Kharkiv (Shevchenkivskyi district)

The strikes employed drones, guided aerial bombs, and unmanned aerial vehicles. Targets included district police departments, oil transport infrastructure, pumping stations, residential buildings, and meat processing plants.

These events underscore the ongoing escalation of the conflict and deliberate strikes on civilian infrastructure, raising serious domestic and international concern. Protecting residential areas and critical infrastructure is increasingly vital, as such attacks harm both the economy and civilian safety. The response of Ukrainian forces and subsequent security measures will be crucial in mitigating the impact of similar future assaults.
