Атаки російських військ на українську інфраструктуру призвели до великого числа жертв і відключень електропостачання для сотень тисяч людей.

Intense Attacks Target Ukraine’s Railway and Energy Systems Overnight

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: In the early hours of October 14, Russian military forces carried out a coordinated assault on Ukraine’s rail infrastructure across five regions, as well as on energy facilities in Kyiv and its surrounding area. These strikes resulted in the deaths of three individuals and injured 22 others. The attacks damaged locomotive and carriage depots, repair workshops, train stations, and rolling stock, with Kyiv, Kyiv region, and Kharkiv region bearing the brunt of the offensive.

The Russian offensive involved launching 39 ballistic missiles along with over 120 strike drones and loitering munitions from multiple directions simultaneously. Notably, Ukraine did not receive any prior alerts about the missile launches from its international partners. The primary objective was to cripple Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Damage to electrical facilities caused widespread power outages affecting more than 600,000 people.

Impact on Rail Transport and Power Services

Due to the ballistic threat, train movements at the capital’s railway hub were temporarily suspended.

“The threat of ballistic missiles forced us to halt operations at the capital’s railway node. Currently, trains that were held back for safety reasons are departing one by one,”

explained Oleksandr Pertsovskyi. Several buildings in different Kyiv districts sustained damage, and some public transportation services were temporarily halted as a precaution.

Despite the widespread damage, there have been no reported casualties among energy workers, who have been swiftly restoring services following the attacks. Pertsovskyi commented:

“Another night of concentrated strikes on railway facilities. The enemy is trying to destroy everything within reach: locomotive and carriage depots, repair plants, stations, and rolling stock.”

This assault on Ukraine’s critical rail and power infrastructure underscores the ongoing aggression by Russian forces and their intent to undermine essential national assets.

For international observers, the attack highlights the persistent risks faced by Ukraine in protecting vital infrastructure during wartime. Disruptions to railway and energy networks threaten the country’s logistics and electricity supply, which are crucial for civilian life and the economy. Continued assaults of this nature risk exacerbating humanitarian and social challenges for the Ukrainian population.

The recent attacks on Ukraine's rail and energy systems are part of a broader pattern of aggression, underscoring the ongoing threat to civilian infrastructure.
