At the time of the attack, nine sailors from Egypt, Turkey, and India were aboard. Tragically, lives were lost during the evacuation.

Ukraine's Naval Forces confirmed that 'given the difficult conditions and the risk of the fire spreading further, crews of Ukrainian Navy boats successfully carried out a rescue operation to evacuate the dry cargo ship's crew, but unfortunately there are casualties among them.'
