Drone Strike Targets Railway Station Near Iskra Village

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: On September 9, 2026, at approximately 10:00 AM, a Russian "Shahed" drone launched an attack on a railway station close to the village of Iskra in the Kharkiv region. The drone struck the rear of a passenger train traveling the Kharkiv–Izium route. This assault resulted in seven individuals sustaining shrapnel wounds, including both railway employees and passengers. Emergency evacuation procedures were immediately implemented to ensure the safety of those on board.

The Izium City Military Administration and Alexander Pertzovsky, Chairman of Ukrzaliznytsia, confirmed the incident. Pertzovsky stated:

"We managed to protect the staff and passengers from a far worse outcome. However, debris scattered widely. Seven people, mostly suffering minor shrapnel injuries, were affected-both railway workers and travelers."

Reports also indicated a fire broke out at the attack site.

Previous Attacks on Ukrainian Railways

This event is part of a disturbing pattern. On September 8, 2026, Russian forces struck a suburban diesel train in the Sumy region and a regional train running between Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia, causing injuries to passengers and resulting in the death of a railway worker. That same day, drones targeted a passenger train from Kyiv to Sumy, but thanks to timely evacuations, there were no casualties.

Earlier, on August 23, 2026, a passenger train traveling from Zhytomyr to Odesa was hit by a Russian strike, though no injuries were reported. Also on that day, a drone struck a train on the Lozova–Kharkiv route in Kharkiv region, killing one passenger. On August 13, a Russian jet drone attacked a passenger train locomotive in Odesa, but all 340 passengers and staff were evacuated safely without injuries.

Alexander Pertzovsky emphasized the critical importance of adhering to safety protocols during stops and evacuations:

"We urge everyone to follow the instructions posted inside every electric and diesel train, as well as announcements at stations and stops. In the event of a security stop or evacuation order, immediately seek shelter if available. If none exists, maintain a distance of at least 200 meters from the train during stops. Failure to do so endangers lives. These rules have been written in blood."

The ongoing assaults on Ukraine’s railway infrastructure highlight the vulnerability of this vital transport network amid the conflict. The increasing frequency of such attacks raises serious concerns for both passengers and railway personnel. This situation demands urgent government action to enhance security measures.
