Attack on the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant

According to ХВИЛЯ: In the early hours of June 7, a Russian Shahed drone hit the building housing the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility within the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant zone. Ukrainian emergency crews quickly extinguished the resulting fire. Crucially, no increase in background radiation levels has been detected in the area. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strike as 'extremely vile' and 'deliberate,' emphasizing that critical infrastructure remains a priority target for the aggressor. This incident highlights ongoing risks to nuclear safety in conflict zones.

Missile Strikes and International Response

According to the president, over the past week Russia has launched:

  • 88 missiles,
  • more than 3,250 drones,
  • approximately 1,800 guided aerial bombs (KABs).

Zelenskyy stated that 'Russian audacity has clearly exceeded even its previously outrageous levels,' and called for fresh measures from the international community to intensify pressure on Moscow. Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Energy, and other agencies are actively updating the country's partners on the situation.

'Pressure on Russia must be increased. Thank you to everyone who is helping!' Volodymyr Zelenskyy

These events once again underscore the serious threat that Russia's aggressive actions pose to Ukraine and global security.

The current situation reflects growing tensions in the region, where Ukraine's critical infrastructure is being deliberately targeted by hostile forces. The Chernobyl incident raises alarms not only at the national level but also internationally, as the safety of nuclear facilities is a vital component of global peace. With President Zelenskyy urging the international community to ramp up pressure on Russia, diplomatic efforts are intensifying, potentially paving the way for new sanctions against the aggressor.

As the situation escalates, the recent incident at Chernobyl is part of a broader pattern of aggression against Ukraine. In a strikingly similar attack, Russia launched a massive wave of drones and missiles, resulting in significant casualties.
