The Voronov Family Tragedy

According to Спортивний комітет: A Russian attack on the village of Radushne in the Dnipropetrovsk region, launched during the night before July 30, killed the entire Voronov family. Parents Artem and Olena and their children Marko, Zakharii, and Veronika all perished. Their death has left a deep mark on the hearts of those who knew them. The strike is yet another example of the heavy civilian toll of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Two Promising Chess Players Gone

Zakharii was 12 years old, and Veronika was 14. Both children were active participants in the All-Ukrainian School Leagues 'Shoulder to Shoulder' and represented their schools in chess tournaments. The loss is being felt not only within the family but across the wider community that knew them as talented young chess players.

About 200 people came to the farewell ceremony for the Voronovs to offer their condolences.

“This is an unbearable loss for the entire Shoulder to Shoulder family. Our deepest sympathies go out to the relatives and friends of everyone who died.”

The tragedy has been a heavy blow for the community, which has lost not just a family but also young talents who had the potential to achieve great things in chess.

The death of the Voronov family highlights the dreadful consequences of combat operations, which affect not only the immediate victims but the entire community. Losing such gifted children as Zakharii and Veronika is a serious setback for the development of young talent in the country. The 'Shoulder to Shoulder' community that supported them in competitions is now confronting the bitter reality of their absence, which could affect other children's participation in similar projects.
