Doping and Propaganda Concerns in Russian Sport

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) prohibited meldonium on January 1, 2016. The skier's case attracted further attention due to her involvement in political propaganda events, which violates the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) guidelines for neutral athletes. For instance, Aleksandra Sayutina attended Vladimir Putin's address to the Federal Assembly on February 29, 2024, and fellow skier Veronika Stepanova later posted a photo showing Sayutina at a propaganda event.
