He stated that these interactions could become more cordial once hostilities in Ukraine come to an end. Rubio also pointed out that, as of now, neither side in the conflict-especially Russia-has shown a willingness to make the necessary compromises needed to achieve peace. He noted that American efforts to create a framework for negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow have so far failed to produce results.

In his remarks, Rubio referenced a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, during which Lavrov relayed a message from President Vladimir Putin to U.S. President Donald Trump. Rubio subsequently passed that message on to Trump. He emphasized that a persistent danger in all ongoing conflicts is the constant risk of escalation.

President Donald Trump does not view diplomatic dialogue as a sign of weakness or concession. However, despite Washington’s efforts, the situation on the front lines remains tense.
