Ryan Roberto Joins Shakhtar Donetsk

According to Главком: Brazilian attacking midfielder Ryan Roberto has officially moved from Flamengo to Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk. The transfer fee is set at €9 million, with the player signing a five-year contract. Now 18 years old, Roberto only made his senior debut for Flamengo in January of this year. He has appeared in two matches in the Rio de Janeiro state championship and played 16 games for Flamengo’s U-20 team, scoring six goals and providing one assist. His primary position is on the left wing.

Other Developments in Ukrainian Football

Beyond Roberto’s transfer, several other events are noteworthy in Ukrainian football:

  • Tomasz Kędziora has returned to Dynamo Kyiv on a free transfer after his stint with PAOK. This move is significant for Dynamo fans, as Kędziora brings valuable experience from the Ukrainian Premier League.
  • Kharkiv club Metalist 1925 has undergone a rebranding, changing its name to simply Kharkiv. This step may signal a new phase in the club’s development.

Additionally, Ukrainian football has announced the winners of the Best Young Player of the UPL award, which has been presented since the 2010/11 season, and the Best Coach of the UPL award, established in 2008/09. Mircea Lucescu, who has received the coaching honor seven times, remains the record holder among coaches.

Ryan Roberto’s transfer to Shakhtar highlights the growing interest of Ukrainian clubs in young, promising talent, which could boost competition levels in Ukrainian football.

Kędziora’s return to Dynamo also shows teams are looking to strengthen their squads by relying on familiar players with proven experience. Metalist 1925’s rebranding may be part of a strategy to attract new fans and raise the club’s profile on Ukraine’s football scene.

As Shakhtar Donetsk continues to invest in young talent like Ryan Roberto, it's worth noting that the club is also making strategic moves to enhance its roster. Recently, they re-signed experienced player Karavaev, which reflects their commitment to a balanced squad.
