Ukrainian Security Service Foils FSB Spy Ring Targeting Power Plants and Military Trains
Ukrainian Counterintelligence Captures FSB and Russian Military Intelligence Agents
According to Главком: Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) has apprehended a network of agents working for Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) and the Main Directorate of the Russian General Staff. This network was engaged in reconnaissance and directing strikes against Ukraine's energy infrastructure and military logistics. In one specific operation, SBU counterintelligence detained an FSB agent who was guiding air attacks on Kyiv's power facilities and spying on the movements of Ukrainian Defense Force units.
Details of the Apprehension
The detained woman is a resident of the Rivne region. She was recruited after searching for work on Telegram channels. Her FSB handlers sent her to the Kyiv region to survey thermal power plants and report on their condition. She was also tasked with traveling to the Odesa and Chernihiv regions. In Odesa, she stayed in a hotel near a railway station to monitor the movement of military supply trains. In Chernihiv, she rented an apartment near a highway, where she placed a smartphone with remote access on a windowsill, allowing her FSB contacts to track military equipment in real time.
Her arrest occurred in the Chernihiv region, where authorities seized two phones and SIM cards. She has been formally charged with state treason under martial law. A court has ordered her to be held in custody without the possibility of bail. This crime carries a potential sentence of life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
In a separate case, the SBU previously detained two agents of Russian military intelligence (GRU). They were assisting in assessing the damage from a strike on civilian infrastructure in the Lviv region on the night of January 8-9, 2026. One detainee is a 64-year-old resident of Mukachevo who was recruited remotely; the other is a 22-year-old unemployed neighbor.
Additionally, another agent of Russian military intelligence was detained in the city of Odesa. This 52-year-old local unemployed woman was adjusting enemy attacks on the city and expressing support for the occupiers on social media. She came to the attention of Russian operatives through an acquaintance living in Russia who cooperates with Russian military intelligence.
The capture of these FSB and GRU agents highlights the active efforts of Ukrainian special services to counter Russian aggression, particularly during the ongoing war. The SBU's actions are focused on protecting national security and preventing potential terrorist attacks on critical infrastructure.
These incidents underscore the critical need for heightened vigilance among the civilian population and increased cooperation with law enforcement to identify similar threats. The SBU's operations are a key component of Ukraine's defense against Russia's hybrid warfare tactics, which blend espionage with kinetic attacks.
