Terrorist Attack in Lviv Leads to Charges

According to Главком: The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the National Police have formally charged an 18-year-old woman from Kharkiv in connection with a terrorist attack in Lviv on the night of February 22. The explosions killed 23-year-old police officer Viktoriia Shpylka and injured 25 others, most of whom were police officers and National Guard servicemen. This incident highlights the persistent threat of hybrid warfare tactics within Ukraine's borders.

According to the investigation, the young woman called the emergency line 112 from Kharkiv, reading a prepared script about two unknown individuals at a grocery store in Lviv. A police patrol arrived at the scene, where an improvised explosive device planted nearby detonated. A second explosion occurred after additional law enforcement and National Guard units arrived.

Investigation and Arrests

Investigators believe the Kharkiv resident, who came to the attention of Russian special services in January 2024, was seeking paid tasks on Telegram channels. She allegedly planned to receive $100 for making the false emergency call. She has been charged under Part 2 of Article 383 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Separately, a court has ordered a 33-year-old woman from Kostopil in the Rivne region, suspected of carrying out the terrorist act, to be held in custody for 60 days without the right to post bail. The hearing took place in the Halytskyi District Court of Lviv.

The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police emphasized that the actions behind this call, which led to tragedy, constitute a direct threat to public safety.

This event underscores the severe threats posed by terrorist activity in Ukraine, particularly amid the ongoing war. The detention of suspects and their subsequent prosecution demonstrates the efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat terrorism and uphold public security. It is crucial for the public to remain vigilant against potential threats and actions that could endanger civilian safety.
