Ukraine’s SBU Strikes Russian Airfields in Crimea for Second Time in a Week
SBU Operation in Crimea
According to Главком: Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) has launched strikes on Russian military targets in Crimea, specifically hitting the Saky and Hvardiiske airfields. This operation forms part of a 40-day campaign to pressure the Russian Federation, which was approved by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on June 25. The attacks on these air bases mark the second such assault within a week.
At the Saky airfield, seven hangars storing aircraft-including Su-30SM, Su-30, and Su-24 fighter jets and frontline bombers-were hit. Preliminary reports indicate that at least seven planes were destroyed or damaged. This is the second SBU strike on the Saky airfield in the current week.
At the Hvardiiske airfield, two hangars containing Shahed-type drones and aviation equipment were struck.
Yevhenii Khmara, an SBU spokesperson: 'The SBU continues to carry out the tasks set by the President of Ukraine and systematically reduces Russia’s military potential. Each of our special operations means fewer enemy aircraft, logistics, warehouses, equipment, and infrastructure that support Russian aggression.'
These latest SBU strikes are part of an ongoing strategy to target Russian military assets in Crimea, particularly the aggressor’s air forces.
Ukrainian Forces Intensify Efforts
These actions by the SBU signal a ramp-up in Ukrainian efforts against Russian aggression, especially in Crimea, which remains a critical military staging ground for Russian troops. The operations carried out under this campaign could significantly undermine Russia’s ability to sustain its military operations in the region, potentially altering the conflict’s trajectory. The increased frequency of attacks on key infrastructure underscores Ukraine’s commitment to defending its territorial integrity and security.
The recent SBU operations in Crimea have not only targeted airfields but also led to significant repercussions, including a blackout in Sevastopol. These developments highlight the intensifying conflict and the strategic importance of disrupting Russian military capabilities.
