Ukrainian Security Service Apprehends Russian Agent in Kyiv for Targeting Missile Strikes
Russian Spies Captured on Ukrainian Territory
According to Главком: The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained a 63-year-old resident of Kyiv who was recruited by Russian intelligence to gather coordinates of defense facilities for subsequent missile attacks. The woman carried out her mission by photographing potential targets with her smartphone. A court has found her guilty of high treason under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, a crime that carries a potential sentence of 15 years in prison with property confiscation. This case is part of a broader pattern of espionage aimed at Ukraine's critical infrastructure since the full-scale invasion began.
In a separate operation, the SBU also detained two Russian agents in the Donetsk region who were similarly engaged in intelligence gathering. These agents transmitted coordinates of Defense Forces bases located in the Kramatorsk direction. To verify the acquired coordinates, the Russians utilized reconnaissance drones. The plan was to use heavy guided aerial bombs and long-range artillery for the strikes.
A Persistent Threat to National Security
These arrests highlight the ongoing activity of Russian intelligence services in collecting reconnaissance data and preparing attacks on Ukrainian targets. The detention of individuals collaborating with Russian special services underscores the continuing threat Russia poses to Ukraine's national security. Acts of high treason, which can have severe consequences for the country's defense capabilities, emphasize the critical importance of the SBU's work in detecting and neutralizing such threats. This situation serves as a stark reminder of the need for heightened public awareness regarding potential risks and methods of protection from hostile activities.
