President Zelenskyy Receives SBU Briefing on Counterintelligence Operations

According to Главком: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reviewed a report from SBU Chief Yevhen Khmary detailing operations to root out Russian agents. In 2026, the SBU's internal security unit charged 81 individuals with treason, 20 of whom were SBU officials. Among those exposed was a female SBU major who leaked the names of Ukrainian operatives and counterintelligence plans to Russian intelligence. Additionally, a Russian agent was uncovered within Ukraine's Defense Forces-a State Border Guard Service inspector who had been adjusting artillery strikes on the country's northern regions.

The Critical Need to Purge the SBU

Zelenskyy stressed the importance of cleansing the SBU of anyone whose interests do not align with Ukraine's.

“Everyone in state positions must work for Ukraine and for the sake of Ukraine,” he stated.

The President also prepared a special letter to the U.S. President and Congress, which was sent to Washington institutions on May 26, 2026.

“This week, I prepared a special letter to the President of the United States and Congress. Yesterday, the letter was already sent to institutions in Washington. It is rare for leaders of another country to address both the President and Congress of the United States in writing like this,” Zelenskyy added.

The SBU's Main Directorate of Internal Security continues operations against those who have chosen to aid the enemy rather than Ukraine.

“Ukraine will be tough with them,” the President concluded.

The exposure of agents and traitors highlights the ongoing need for robust internal security and the fight against Russian aggression on all fronts. This situation underscores the severe challenges Ukraine faces amid its war with Russia, and the SBU's proactive efforts to identify traitors and agents demonstrate the necessity of strengthening internal security to counter hostile influence.

In light of these developments, the SBU's ongoing efforts to eliminate internal threats are critical for Ukraine's security.
