Ukrainian Security Service Arrests Russian Agent Inside Kyiv Bank
Russian Agent Apprehended on Ukrainian Soil
According to Главком: Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) has detained a Russian operative who was employed in the information security department of a commercial bank in Kyiv. According to the investigation, the individual was gathering the personal data of clients, including members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and volunteers, for transmission to Russian intelligence agencies. Investigators have formally notified the detainee of suspicion of state treason under Part 2 of Article 111 of Ukraine's Criminal Code.
The arrested individual is a 40-year-old bank employee who initially drew the attention of Russian special services through his activity on social media. Following recruitment, he carried out test assignments that involved photographing buildings and collecting information on bank clients. The data he compiled could have been used to prepare for:
- terrorist acts,
- information sabotage,
- recruitment operations.
The suspect is currently in custody without the possibility of bail. He faces a potential sentence of life imprisonment with confiscation of property. This incident highlights the ongoing activity of Russian agents within Ukraine and their attempts to destabilize the country. Such intelligence-gathering operations are a persistent feature of the ongoing conflict.
Broadening Threats from Russian Intelligence
In a separate incident in Zaporizhzhia, a 16-year-old high school student received a suspicious message offering part-time work and urging her to fight against Ukrainian law enforcement. The student reported the message to a police officer stationed at the educational institution. Additionally, the SBU arrested two Russian agents in the Donetsk region who were transmitting the coordinates of Defense Forces positions in the Kramatorsk sector to the enemy. This pattern indicates a growing multi-faceted threat from Russian intelligence. The occupiers verified these coordinates using reconnaissance drones before planning strikes with heavy guided aerial bombs and long-range artillery.
The arrest of this Russian agent underscores the active efforts of hostile forces to destabilize Ukraine through information collection and recruitment.
