Russian Agents Apprehended

According to Главком: Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) has detained two individuals who were operating as agents for the Russian Federation. Their mission was to gather and transmit the coordinates of Ukrainian Armed Forces positions in the strategically important Kramatorsk sector. The SBU's counterintelligence operation revealed that the agents collected data on Ukrainian defense bases, which Russian forces then verified using reconnaissance drones. The intelligence was intended to guide potential attacks using heavy guided aerial bombs and long-range artillery, highlighting the persistent threat of precision strikes along the front lines.

Details of the Operation

The two men detained were a 61-year-old odd-job worker from the Kramatorsk district and a 52-year-old unemployed man. The first agent was tasked with documenting Ukrainian fortifications and firing positions. He was recruited through an acquaintance in Russia and conducted his reconnaissance under the guise of traveling to front-line settlements for casual work. The second agent, recruited after posting anti-Ukrainian comments in Telegram channels, tracked the locations of Ukrainian personnel and equipment near a district center. To gather additional intelligence, he discreetly questioned acquaintances during seemingly ordinary conversations.

Searches of the detainees' homes led to the seizure of mobile phones containing data for Russian contacts and communications with a Russian handler. Both men have been formally notified of suspicion of state treason committed under martial law. They face possible life imprisonment with property confiscation and are currently in custody. This case underscores the severe legal consequences for wartime espionage in Ukraine.

This incident is not isolated. Previously, in Kharkiv, the SBU detained a 61-year-old female agent of Russian military intelligence who was preparing coordinates for missile and bomb attacks on the city. She came to the attention of the occupiers through a relative living in Russia who cooperates with Russian special services.

The capture of these agents highlights the ongoing threat posed by Russian intelligence operations within Ukraine and the critical role of counterintelligence in safeguarding national security. It serves as a stark reminder of the methods used by Russian forces to recruit assets and the constant vigilance required to counter espionage and sabotage attempts during the war.
