FSB Agent Apprehended in Kyiv

According to Главком: The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained a female agent of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) in Kyiv. She is accused of gathering intelligence to facilitate strikes on the country's energy infrastructure and defense industry facilities. Following an investigation, she has been formally charged with high treason. This arrest highlights the ongoing threat of Russian espionage aimed at crippling Ukraine's critical wartime systems.

According to the SBU's counterintelligence unit, the agent was conducting reconnaissance near Kyiv's thermal power plants to collect data for a planned new attack on the capital's energy grid. Her activities also involved monitoring the operations of both state-owned and private enterprises contributing to Ukraine's defense industry, with the goal of providing coordinates for missile strikes. To conceal her espionage missions, she used walks with her young daughter as cover and frequently changed her clothing and behavior patterns.

The agent was also tasked with assessing the condition of energy facilities following recent Russian missile and drone attacks, gathering current information on the status of defense-industrial sites. She marked coordinates on Google Maps and photographed potential targets using her mobile phone. The suspect was arrested at her residence in Kyiv's Obolon district. The SBU revealed she was recruited by the FSB while working as a shop assistant for a retail chain, having initially attracted the attention of Russian operatives while searching for easy money in Telegram channels.

During searches, a smartphone and multiple SIM cards were seized from the detainee. SBU investigators have notified her of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, pertaining to high treason committed under martial law. She is currently in custody without the right to post bail and faces a potential sentence of life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Other Recent Arrests

This case is not an isolated incident. Previously, the SBU detained a foreign national who, on orders from Russia, was preparing a double terrorist attack in Kyiv. The perpetrator planned to plant a homemade explosive device under a Ukrainian soldier's car, intending to detonate it remotely as the serviceman approached. A second explosive was intended to target emergency responders arriving at the scene.

In a separate operation, SBU cyber specialists neutralized an FSB spy network in the capital by arresting a 59-year-old Kyiv businessman. Using his legitimate armored glass manufacturing business as a front, he collected intelligence on companies fulfilling defense contracts. He visited enterprises involved in the repair and modernization of military equipment under the guise of coordinating technical tasks.

The arrest of the FSB agent underscores the persistent threat posed by Russian intelligence operations within Ukraine, particularly during the ongoing war. The Security Service of Ukraine continues to actively counter attempts by hostile agents to infiltrate critical infrastructure and military sites. This situation also emphasizes the crucial importance of internal security and counterintelligence in a protracted military conflict, reminding citizens to remain vigilant and support law enforcement efforts against state treason.
