Ukrainian Security Service Detains Russian Military Intelligence Agent in Kharkiv
Russian Intelligence Agent Apprehended in Kharkiv
According to Главком: Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) has arrested a 61-year-old foreign language instructor in Kharkiv, who was operating as an agent for Russian military intelligence. The detainee was collecting coordinates for missile and bomb strikes on Ukrainian defense force positions. She has been formally charged under Article 111 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, which pertains to high treason committed under martial law.
Details of the Agent's Activities
According to the investigation, the woman walked through the city on foot to identify and record the locations of personnel and military equipment concentrations. She photographed these sites and marked their positions on digital maps, compiling the gathered intelligence into an agent report. Part of this report was written in English. The agent then transmitted the collected data to her handler from Russia's Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) via a messaging app.
To maintain operational secrecy, she periodically changed smartphones, communicated in anonymous chat groups, and deleted her correspondence. During searches of her property, smartphones confirming her activities were seized. She is currently in custody without the possibility of bail and faces a potential sentence of life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
As part of the operation, the SBU also secured the defense force locations she had targeted. This arrest follows other recent counterintelligence successes, including the detention of a Russian agent in the Donetsk region who was correcting enemy artillery fire on Druzhkivka, and another GRU agent in Dnipro who was guiding airstrikes on defense industry facilities. These operations highlight the SBU's active campaign against hostile agents operating within Ukraine's borders.
These events underscore the critical importance of countering external threats during wartime, as the detection and apprehension of enemy agents is vital for protecting national security.

The SBU's sustained activity in these arrests demonstrates a systematic approach to identifying threats, which is crucial for strengthening the country's defensive capabilities during the ongoing armed conflict. The GRU, Russia's military intelligence agency, has a long history of conducting covert operations abroad.
