Former Workshop Foreman Detained

According to Главком: The Ukrainian Security Service's (SBU) counterintelligence unit has detained a former workshop foreman in the Donetsk region on suspicion of state treason. The individual is accused of gathering coordinates of Ukrainian defense positions to facilitate Russian strikes. He was reportedly recruited by a former subordinate who joined Russian-backed armed groups in 2014 following the initial invasion of Crimea and eastern Ukraine.

The investigation revealed the suspect was collecting intelligence on the locations of Ukrainian defense assets, including:

  • Alternate command posts
  • Logistics centers
  • Ukrainian military UAV units in Kramatorsk and its surrounding areas

To avoid detection, the agent conducted his reconnaissance on foot, deliberately evading visual contact with military and law enforcement personnel. During these missions, he would mark the identified defense locations on a Google map to compile intelligence reports for his Russian handlers.

"In order to track the coordinates of the objects, the agent traversed the area on foot, avoiding visual contact with military and law enforcement officers," the SBU stated.

During searches of his property, investigators seized a smartphone containing evidence of his activities. SBU investigators have formally notified the detainee of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He is currently in custody without the possibility of bail and faces a potential sentence of life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

SBU Counterintelligence Operations

In a separate operation, SBU counterintelligence also detained a female Russian agent in the Donetsk region. She is accused of transmitting coordinates for Russian guided aerial bomb strikes on Sloviansk. These incidents highlight the persistent threat posed by hostile intelligence networks in the region and the ongoing efforts of Ukrainian security forces to counter them.

The apprehension of enemy agents on Ukrainian soil, particularly in the frontline Donetsk region, underscores the persistent and serious nature of the threat from Russian special services. The SBU's actions to identify and neutralize such threats are critical for maintaining regional security and stability. These cases also demonstrate the necessity for enhanced security measures and cooperation between military and law enforcement agencies to counter attempts to undermine Ukraine's defense capabilities.
