Ukrainian Security Service Thwarts Bomb Plot, Arrests Russian Agent
Russian Agent Apprehended in Ukraine
According to Главком: The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has arrested a Russian agent who was plotting a terrorist attack on a military facility in the Donetsk region. The SBU's counterintelligence operation successfully prevented the bombing of a building belonging to a Territorial Recruitment Center (TRC) near the front lines. The perpetrator, a resident of Mykolaivka in the Kramatorsk district who had been recruited by Russia, intended to plant a homemade explosive device in a trash container near the entrance to the secure facility.
According to information provided by 'Glavcom' citing the SBU, Russian special services planned to detonate the bomb remotely during peak hours. The agent was captured while arriving at a location to meet a Russian drone, which was to deliver the improvised explosive device (IED). Upon her arrest, authorities seized a bomb with an explosive power equivalent to nearly 2 kg of TNT, containing metal fragments, as well as a mobile phone intended to trigger the device.
Agent's Activities and Consequences
The agent had also offered to use her own apartment as a 'staging post' for Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups. During searches, law enforcement officers confiscated a smartphone used to coordinate activities with a Russian intelligence officer. SBU investigators have formally notified her of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, pertaining to high treason committed under martial law. Authorities are also considering additional charges related to the preparation of a terrorist act.
The suspect is now in custody without the possibility of bail and faces a potential sentence of life imprisonment with confiscation of property. This incident is part of a broader pattern of Russian subversion; previously, SBU counterintelligence detained a freelance psychologist who, on orders from Russia's FSB, attempted to infiltrate a TRC in the Kharkiv region. These arrests highlight the persistent threat of espionage and sabotage within Ukraine.
Citizens with additional information or reports of suspicious activity can contact the authorities by phone at 0 800 501 482 or via email at [email protected]. Furthermore, a Telegram chatbot named 'Burn the FSB Agent' (t.me/spaly_fsb_bot) is available as a resource for reporting the activities of hostile agents.
The arrest of this Russian agent demonstrates the active efforts of Ukrainian security services to prevent terrorist threats and the actions of hostile operatives during the war. It also underscores the critical importance of cooperation between citizens and law enforcement agencies in identifying suspicious activities that could threaten national security.
