Seven Dead in Dnipro Following Massive Russian Strike
Devastating Attack on Dnipropetrovsk Region
According to Главком: In the early hours of June 2, Russian forces launched a large-scale assault on the Dnipropetrovsk region, with the regional capital, Dnipro, suffering the heaviest damage. As of 8:45 AM, the death toll in Dnipro had climbed to seven, including a State Emergency Service (DSES) worker killed on the spot during a second wave of strikes. The attack also left 34 people wounded, among them two children: a 16-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl. Twenty-four of the injured have been hospitalized.
Aftermath of the Assault
The impact in Dnipro includes the partial destruction of apartment buildings, notably a four-story residential block. Additionally, an industrial facility and a fire station were damaged, and numerous civilian vehicles were destroyed or set ablaze. The enemy employed a tactic of repeated strikes, which complicated rescue efforts.
A search-and-rescue operation is ongoing, and according to Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov,
“several people remain unaccounted for, and their fate is unknown.”
This tragedy is part of a broader offensive campaign, as on the same night, Russian forces also launched a massive combined attack on Kyiv, killing at least four people and injuring over 50. In the Kyiv region, three more people were hurt, and residential buildings, warehouses, and logistics facilities sustained significant damage in the Bucha, Vyshhorod, Fastiv, and Obukhiv districts.
These events underscore an escalation in the conflict and a rise in the intensity of attacks on Ukrainian cities, leading to substantial civilian casualties and infrastructure destruction. The critical need for rescue operations and aid for the wounded remains paramount amid ongoing hostilities, which threaten the lives and safety of the civilian population. This situation demands urgent action from state authorities and the international community to protect peaceful residents and support the recovery of affected regions.
The recent attack on Dnipro is part of a troubling pattern, as earlier that night, Russian forces also targeted the Dnipropetrovsk region, resulting in multiple injuries and significant infrastructure damage.
