She Drives Project: 124 Women Become Truck and Bus Drivers
Last Friday, an exciting discussion took place in Kyiv on the She Drives project aimed at training and employing women drivers of buses and trucks.
Participants of the event – representatives of the government, UN Women in Ukraine, the community, business, and municipal enterprises – discussed the project's results and its impact on women's leadership in the transport sector. She Drives has proven to be a real tool for change in this area, highlighting the barriers and challenges faced by women wishing to work in this sector.
'The path for participants to the profession should be quick, safe, and effective. We need to talk openly about all the problems we observe and seek solutions together with all stakeholders. She Drives is not just a training program; it is a cultural change in the sector as a whole,' emphasized the organizers.
Currently, 124 participants are completing training within the project, with 35 of them receiving a professional driver's competency certificate. The discussion also revealed the importance of expanding the training of women drivers, developing a training base, and creating favorable conditions for women in the transport sector.
