Meta’s AI App Muse Tops App Store in US with Over 10 Million Downloads in Just 40 Days
Muse’s Rapid Rise to Prominence
According to НВ — Техно: Since its launch in September 2026, Meta’s AI-powered app Muse has been downloaded 10.2 million times in the United States within the first 40 days-a milestone that positions it among the fastest-growing mobile apps. Overall, Muse has reached 10.9 million downloads since debut. Only a dozen apps have surpassed the 10 million download mark in such a short timeframe, including Meta’s own Threads, which launched in July 2023. Muse’s success has drawn comparisons to blockbuster hits like Fortnite, PUBG Mobile, Pokémon GO, and even non-gaming giants like Disney+.
Marketing Efforts and User Engagement
Meta’s suite of apps collectively serves 3.6 billion daily users worldwide. In October, Meta allocated 39% of its advertising budget to promote Muse, a significant jump from the 23% spent in September. This marketing push helped Muse climb in visibility, moving from 73rd to 21st place among US brands by advertising impressions.
User retention rates for Muse are particularly noteworthy. Seven days after installation, the app retains 30% of new users, dropping to 23% after two weeks. In contrast, competitors like ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok maintain retention rates of around 19% and 16%. On October 16, Muse recorded 2.5 million daily active users, marking a 15% increase compared to the previous week.
For context, within the same 40-day period, ChatGPT achieved 3.7 million downloads in the US, Grok reached 500,000, and Claude had 200,000. Muse’s impressive figures stand out given its availability is currently limited to the US and Canada, while competitors like ChatGPT operate in broader markets including Japan, Brazil, and Germany. Notably, 25% of ChatGPT’s global downloads during this time came from Japan.
Muse has held the number one spot on the US App Store almost continuously since its release. On October 19, it briefly ceded first place to streaming app Kick but quickly regained its lead. The app has also dominated Google Play’s charts for the past 30 days. According to Kara Lee, only 11 apps have achieved comparable success.

With Muse currently available only in North America, its future expansion into international markets will be closely watched. Competing against major players like ChatGPT will remain a challenge, and Meta's strategic choices will be crucial in shaping Muse’s ongoing trajectory.
As Muse continues to captivate users with its rapid growth, it's essential to explore the latest advancements in Meta's AI capabilities. The recent introduction of new AI models for Muse promises to enhance user experience even further, offering features like active memory and improved focus for tackling complex tasks. This could significantly influence Muse's trajectory in the competitive landscape of AI applications.
