Andrii Sybiha Meets Marco Rubio on the Sidelines of the G7

According to Главком: Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha held talks with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio during the G7 summit in Évian-les-Bains, France. The central focus of their discussion was Washington’s role in restoring peace in Ukraine and the need to ramp up pressure on the Kremlin amid the ongoing war. The G7 gathering, a key forum for major industrialized democracies, provided a platform for high-level diplomacy on the conflict.

Sybiha briefed Rubio on the latest operations by Ukrainian forces on the front lines and detailed a recent overnight attack by Russia that destroyed 80% of the roof of the Dormition Cathedral. The minister stated:

“These strikes show that Moscow is waging a war against faith, heritage, and Ukrainian identity.”

He also outlined what he believes are the necessary steps to finally bring Putin to the negotiating table.

G7 Summit Discussions

During the official G7 working session titled ‘Building Peace and Security for Ukraine and Europe,’ Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with U.S. President Donald Trump. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio joined from the American side, while Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov participated from the Ukrainian side. Trump described the war in Ukraine as ‘madness’ due to the heavy casualties on both sides, adding that after finalizing agreements with Iran, he would fully focus on achieving peace in Europe.

These talks underscore the critical role of international support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression and highlight the need to step up diplomatic efforts to achieve stability and peace in the region.

The dialogue between Ukrainian and U.S. officials at the G7 summit reflects the ongoing strategic partnership between Ukraine and the United States. Engaging international partners in the peace process is essential for stabilizing the situation in Ukraine and preventing further escalation of the conflict. Continued high-level discussions could pave the way for more effective steps toward achieving long-term peace in the region.

In light of the ongoing discussions at the G7 summit, it is important to note that President Zelenskyy has maintained direct communication with U.S. leadership. Recently, he engaged in a 30-minute conversation with Trump, further emphasizing the need for a united front against Russian aggression and the urgency of diplomatic resolutions to the conflict.
