Signals from the US delegation: what Zelensky is expecting amid negotiations in Moscow

Ukraine is awaiting the results of the meeting of the US delegation with representatives of the Russian Federation, which will determine Kyiv's next actions. President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Telegram that the American side plans to inform Ukraine first about the results of the contacts, and the level of a possible meeting will depend on the signals received.

US signals and Kyiv's expectations

According to Zelensky, Washington is ready to promptly inform Ukraine about the outcomes of the negotiations. If the signals turn out to be favorable and provide a chance for quick joint decisions, Kyiv may hold a high-level meeting. The President also confirmed his readiness to meet with Donald Trump.

The head of state emphasized that the end of the war must exclude the risk of a new Russian invasion. Ukraine needs clear security guarantees, as Russia continues to build up its military potential. Zelensky emphasized that veterans must return to peaceful life under reliable protection of the country.

The focus of the negotiations remains on the most difficult topics:

• the future of temporarily occupied territories

• the use of frozen Russian assets

• security guarantees from the US, EU, and partners.

What is known about a possible meeting with the US delegation

Axios journalist Barak Ravid reported that after negotiations with the Russian side, US Special Representative Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump's advisor Jared Kushner may meet with Zelensky in one of the European countries. The Ukrainian side expects that the progress on security issues and future decisions of the partners will depend on these contacts.

Zelensky emphasized that he is ready to make difficult decisions, but they must be transparent and fair. The teams of Ukraine and its partners continue working on formulating decisions that will determine the future security architecture.

Earlier, we wrote that negotiations between Ukraine and the US in Florida concluded on December 1, the parties discussed sensitive issues to end the war. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the meeting productive but noted that the work was not yet completed. The meeting lasted two hours and took place at the Shell Bay golf club in Miami.
