Sikorski at the UN - Russia: Another NATO violation could end in downing
The Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski delivered a stern warning to Russia over violations of airspace. During an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, he stated:
'If another missile or other object enters our space, whether intentionally or accidentally, and if it is shot down, and the debris falls on NATO territory, do not come here to complain. You have been warned,' the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry addressed the representatives of Russia, reports Polsat.
The situation escalated due to the intrusion of Russian aircraft into the airspace of Estonia, which led to the first-ever meeting of the UN Security Council at the request of Estonia.
Previous Events and the Response of Poland and NATO
Earlier, the Polish Foreign Minister had described the violations of his country's airspace by Russian drones as a deliberate attack. Poland, together with its allies, responded decisively by activating Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty for consultations. Representatives from several countries and the European Union on foreign policy and security participated in a united front against violations of international law.
The decisive warning from the Polish Foreign Ministry regarding new violations of airspace is a clear signal from the country and its allies about the readiness to take necessary measures to protect their borders and sovereignty.
