Ukraine’s Drone Forces Launch May ‘Air Defense Blitz’: Dozens of Targets Destroyed in Occupied Territories
Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Launch May Campaign Against Russian Air Defenses
According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces have kicked off a May offensive targeting Russian air defense systems in temporarily occupied areas. The operations have resulted in the destruction of anti-aircraft missile systems, radar stations, and command posts, particularly in Donetsk, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia regions.
Key Achievements of the Campaign
Among the campaign’s standout successes is the elimination of a Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile and gun system in the settlement of Novyi Svit in occupied Donetsk. Additionally, a Tor missile system was destroyed in Markivska, Luhansk region. These strikes were carried out by the Birds unit of the 1st Separate Center of the Unmanned Systems Forces (USF).
Furthermore, in Heraskivka, Luhansk, a P-18 radar station belonging to the Phoenix unit of Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service was taken out, along with a similar radar station in Sofiivka in the temporarily occupied part of Zaporizhzhia region.
Continuing the campaign, Ukrainian forces struck three tactical units of the occupation forces in Mariupol, Kamianuvate, and Stepok. All three attacks were executed by fighters from the 9th Battalion Kairos of the 414th Separate Brigade Birds of Madyar. A telecommunications center in Mariupol was also destroyed, along with six airspace control systems in occupied territories. In Kadiivka, Luhansk, a repair base of a Russian unit was eliminated. The strikes on the airspace control systems were carried out by pilots of the 412th Brigade of the USF Nemezis, in coordination with the 1st Separate Center of the USF.
Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces Robert Brovdi (call sign Madyar) stated: 'The May air defense blitz has begun.'
A joint operation by Ukraine’s Defense Forces targeting key Russian oil terminals is ongoing.
This campaign is a critical component of Ukraine’s broader strategy to degrade Russian military capabilities in occupied territories. By eliminating air defense systems and other military assets, Ukraine enhances its defensive posture and reduces risks to its forces. Ukrainian drones are thus playing a pivotal role in modern warfare, underscoring the importance of technology in military conflicts.
As Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces intensify their operations, the recent results echo the significant achievements from earlier in April, when over 3,000 enemy units were reported destroyed. This ongoing campaign highlights the effectiveness of Ukraine's drone strategy in weakening enemy defenses and securing territorial gains.
