Strike on the Vostochny Military Training Ground

According to Главком: In the early hours of June 12, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces launched an attack on the Vostochny military training ground, located in the temporarily occupied part of the Zaporizhzhia region. The operation targeted Russian troop positions near the settlement of Novopetrivka, along with several other key military assets.

Units Stationed at the Training Ground

Three Russian military units were undergoing training at the Vostochny facility:

  • The 40th Naval Infantry Brigade, originally from Kamchatka
  • The 1461st Regiment of Russia’s 36th Army
  • The 1466th Regiment of the 5th Army

Notably, the 40th Naval Infantry Brigade had previously fought in the battle for Vuhledar, while the 1466th Regiment consists of newly recruited soldiers from Primorsky Krai. These units had been involved in combat operations along the Huliaipole axis.

Among the destroyed targets was a Tor-M2 surface-to-air missile system located near the settlement of Vershyna Druha in the Zaporizhzhia region. Additional strikes hit a ZU-23 anti-aircraft gun and a MANPADS team in Novopetrivka. Furthermore, a Russian drone control post in Novoandriivka, Donetsk region, was eliminated.

Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert Brovdi (also known as Madyar), commented on the operation, stating: 'The Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out a strike on the Vostochny military training ground in the temporarily occupied territory of the Zaporizhzhia region.'

This attack on a military training ground highlights the growing role of drone technology in modern warfare and its effectiveness in degrading enemy capabilities. Successful strikes on critical infrastructure can significantly weaken the combat readiness of occupying forces and impact their morale. The frontline situation remains tense, and such operations may form part of a broader Ukrainian strategy aimed at reclaiming occupied territories.

In addition to the recent strike on the Vostochny military training ground, Ukrainian drone forces have demonstrated their capability by targeting various Russian assets. For instance, a recent operation successfully hit a Russian aircraft and helicopter in Yeysk, showcasing the effectiveness of unmanned systems in disrupting enemy operations.
