Elimination of Russian Occupiers with Athletic Backgrounds

According to Главком: Ukraine's defense forces have taken out three Russian invaders-Ruslan Salyaev, Georgy Kamalov, and Chingiz Dodiev-each of whom had a notable sports career before joining the conflict. Their diverse athletic achievements highlight the varied backgrounds of those involved in the war.

Profiles of the Eliminated Occupiers

  • Ruslan Salyaev was a practitioner of sambo and judo. A graduate of the Novospasskaya Youth Sports School, he earned the title of Candidate Master of Sports in judo. Salyaev became a champion and medalist in regional competitions and tournaments of the Volga Federal District, and also received awards in judo events for athletes born in 2003-2004. According to Russian propaganda sources, Salyaev served as an assault trooper and was killed during combat operations on Ukrainian territory.

  • Georgy Kamalov was also eliminated by defense forces. He played for the football team Era Vladivostok from 2003 to 2011. After ending his playing career due to injury, Kamalov moved into coaching, starting within the Era team system. In recent years, he worked with the football club Anri, leading it to the level of the Russian Cup.

  • Chingiz Dodiev, born on December 1, 1993, in the village of Baragkhan, Kurumkansky District, Republic of Buryatia, Russia, held the title of Master of Sports in hand-to-hand combat, as well as Candidate Master of Sports in army hand-to-hand combat and universal karate Ukado/Kempo. He was a holder of a black belt, 2nd dan in self-defense, a three-time champion of the Russian Cup in universal karate Ukado/Kempo, a two-time champion of the Northwest in hand-to-hand combat among law enforcement agencies, a three-time medalist of the Transbaikal Territory in army hand-to-hand combat, and a medalist of the Republic of Buryatia in combat sambo.

The elimination of these invaders underscores not only their involvement in military operations but also their significant sporting accomplishments.

These events reflect the complex reality of the current conflict, where individuals with successful sports careers find themselves drawn into warfare. This also suggests how athletic achievements and physical skills can influence career paths and life choices. The deaths of such individuals may spark discussions about the consequences of war and the relationship between personal accomplishments and military service. These cases highlight both the human and social dimensions of the conflict in Ukraine and its impact on various aspects of life.

The recent elimination of these athletes-turned-invaders is not an isolated incident. In fact, a similar case involved three Russian occupiers, including sports champions and a coach, who were also taken out by Ukrainian forces. This highlights a troubling trend of individuals with athletic backgrounds participating in the conflict. For more details on this incident, you can read about it here.
