Ukrainian Forces Strike Russian Naval Base in Novorossiysk, Destroying Ships and Oil Terminal
Ukrainian Defense Forces Target Naval Base in Novorossiysk
According to ХВИЛЯ: Over the past day, Ukrainian defense units successfully hit the Russian naval base in Novorossiysk, causing significant damage to an oil loading terminal, several military harbor facilities, and warships, including carriers of 'Kalibr' cruise missiles. This coordinated operation involved five branches of Ukraine's defense apparatus: the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the Special Operations Forces (SBS), the Ukrainian Navy, the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), and the State Border Guard Service (DPSU). Robert Brovdi, commander of the Ukrainian unmanned systems forces, confirmed the severe losses suffered by the Russian fleet at the base.
The Russian base lost multiple naval vessels, notably missile carriers. Additionally, near Anapa, drones operated by the SBS destroyed a deck-based Su-33 fighter jet and a Mi-8 helicopter. In the Gelendzhik area, two air defense radar systems were also eliminated.
Statement from Ukraine’s President
“We respond to Russia’s daily terrorist attacks with precision and reach across the entire geography. In the last 24 hours, we achieved results in Novorossiysk, Krasnodar region. The naval base was hit: an oil loading terminal, military harbor facilities, warships, and 'Kalibr' missile carriers,” stated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
President Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to the SBU, SBS, Navy, GUR, and DPSU soldiers for their accurate strikes.
“Thanks to everyone expanding the reach of our long-range sanctions so that Russia’s war is increasingly felt right where it originated,”
he added. These attacks on the Novorossiysk naval base also impact Russia’s grain export capabilities.
These developments highlight Ukraine’s intensified military efforts in response to ongoing Russian aggression and underscore the strategic significance of controlling naval assets in the Black Sea. The destruction of key Russian military infrastructure is likely to disrupt Moscow’s operational capacity and logistics, particularly concerning the supply of critical resources such as oil. In the context of the continuing conflict, these strikes may alter the regional balance of power, raising concerns among international observers.
The recent assault on the naval base has broader implications, particularly for Russia's maritime capabilities and its grain export operations.
