Strike on Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat refinery

According to Мін. Оборони: Ukrainian defense forces have struck the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat oil refinery located in the city of Salavat, Republic of Bashkortostan. This facility was the last large-scale gasoline producer in Russia that had not been targeted in 2026. The operation was carried out by Special Operations Forces (SSO) units specializing in deep strikes, in coordination with the underground resistance movement known as Black Spark.

SSO drones traveled approximately 1,500 kilometers to hit the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat site. This refining and petrochemical complex is among the largest in Russia. The successful attack underscores the precision and intent behind Ukraine's defense operations in the context of energy security.

Strategic importance of the operation

This mission holds strategic significance for Ukraine, as striking a key piece of Russian infrastructure reduces Moscow's ability to support its military needs. In a protracted war, such actions can shift the overall balance of power and highlight the critical role of energy security for both sides.

These attacks also demonstrate ongoing cooperation between Ukrainian forces and local resistance movements, which could have far-reaching implications for Russia's domestic politics.

The recent strike on the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat refinery is part of a broader strategy by Ukrainian forces to undermine Russian energy infrastructure. This follows a similar operation targeting Rosneft's largest refinery in the Volga region, which highlights Ukraine's ongoing efforts to disrupt key resources vital for Russia's military operations.
