Threads Erupts in Controversy as Author Lisyich Calls Soldier Gaievska a 'Chicken'
Clash Between Soldier and Author on Threads
According to Главком: A public dispute has flared up on the social media platform Threads between Ukrainian servicewoman Maria Gaievska and author Daria Lisyich. The argument began with a post by Gaievska featuring a photo of blogger Yulia Verba holding a bouquet of 1,000 roses. In the same post, Gaievska included an AI-generated image where the flowers were replaced with battlefield tourniquets. This stark contrast was intended as a commentary on social priorities during wartime.
In response, Daria Lisyich called Maria Gaievska a 'chicken'. Lisyich later posted an apology video on Instagram, stating she was 'sincerely sorry' for using the term. She explained she felt a public apology was necessary, saying, 'if I was rude in public, I must also apologize in public-that would be honest.'
Social Media Debate Intensifies
Gaievska clarified that her original post was solely about influencers and bloggers with large audiences. She emphasized, 'this post was only about influencers and bloggers who have a large audience.' Gaievska argued that 'because of such posts, people are ashamed to live well,' supporting her view on societal priorities.
During the exchange, Gaievska remarked:
'Ms. Daria, there is a difference between ordinary citizens living well and influencers living well.'
She also noted that by commenting, Lisyich had 'taken upon herself the obligation to assess what prevents people from living a better life.'
The incident sparked vigorous debate among users, who expressed opinions on societal values and public figure conduct. Some commenters stressed that 'the issue is not about 'living well,' but about priorities and the post of a specific person.' Others pointed out that 'a couple hundred kilometers from Kyiv, there is war in the streets,' highlighting the broader context of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The clash between Gaievska and Lisyich has catalyzed a wider discussion about social values and the role of public figures in shaping opinion. Against the backdrop of the protracted war, questions about life's priorities and the responsibility of those with large platforms have gained particular urgency. The online debate underscores a society still grappling to balance personal achievement with collective responsibility during a national crisis.
